Victim Services gets $50,500 in emergency funding

The province is taking action to address the recent spike in domestic violence. Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville will receive $50,500 in emergency funding.

MPP Steve Clark made the announcement yesterday. The funds are part of the more than $2.7 million the province is providing to support services for victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clark says this emergency payment will ensure that victims of crime, particularly those who are experiencing domestic violence, can get the help they need to stay safe and healthy during this crisis.

Attorney General Doug Downey noted that staying home is unfortunately not always the safest option in certain households and sadly a recent increase in domestic violence has been reported to frontline victim service organizations.

The one-time emergency payment will assist more than 50 community agencies across Ontario.

The funds will go towards enhancing access to immediate support for victims, including extended hotel stays, transportation and meal vouchers.
