Hey Day is cancelled

The Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) Auxiliary announced today that Hey Day 2020 will not be happening. The popular local event, which brings in thousands of dollars for the hospital annually, was scheduled for June 12 and 13. This year would’ve marked the 60th anniversary of Hey Day.

Organizer Jolene Stover says the difficult decision was made in light of the amount of advance preparation involved and the uncertainty around the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hey Day, made possible by its hundreds of dedicated volunteers, is one of the largest indoor garage sales in Ontario.

Stover extended thanks to all the volunteers, local businesses that support the event and community members who have been saving items to donate.

This marks only the second time that Hey Day has been cancelled in its history, dating back to 1967 when the aging Kemptville Arena was demolished.

Since it was founded in 1959, the KDH Auxiliary has raised over $1 million for the hospital, thanks in large part to the success of Hey Day.

Stover says she will miss the coming together of the amazing community, but looks forward to Hey Day 2021.
