Catholic schools closed tomorrow

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) is closing all its schools tomorrow. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) is holding a one-day strike to put pressure on the government. The union is opposing cuts to education in its ongoing negotiations with the province.

The OECTA represents more than 857 teachers, or 59% of the board’s workforce.

The CDSBEO says due to the full withdrawal of classroom teaching services, the board isn’t able to ensure adequate student safety and well-being to keep schools open.

The strike follows the work-to-rule campaign that started on January 13.

Impacted schools include St. Michael Catholic High School and Holy Cross Catholic School in Kemptville.
