Local church handing out over 6,000 bags to fill food bank shelves

The 11th annual Fill-a-Bag campaign is about to get underway. The North Grenville Community Church is distributing over 6,000 paper bags on November 24.

Pastor Thomas Eng says the goal is to deliver one to every residence in the municipality. He explained the bags will be picked up the following week, on December 1.

Eng says people can fill the bags with items for the Salvation Army Food Bank, but there’s no obligation to do so.

Last year’s Fill-a-Bag campaign brought in 1,700 bags full of food.

Eng says it’s clear North Grenville is a generous community, full of people who care about each other. He noted it’s not just the amount of food collected, but also the manpower necessary to run the campaign.

Stapled to the bags will be instructions and a list of items the food bank needs.

Eng explained volunteers are still needed to help cover off all the routes. He says it’s a wonderful experience that allows you to witness the generosity of others and be a part of something bigger than yourself.

To volunteer, contact the NGCC directly by calling 613-258-4815.
