Local kids win a ride in a fire truck

Kemptville students are riding to school in style this week. The North Grenville Fire Service (NGFS) is giving kids a lift to celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

Deputy Chief Randy Urslak explained the NGFS ran a special contest to win a ride in a fire truck. He noted grade 4 students were asked to write about how they were going to be a hero during Fire Prevention Week.

Two winners were selected from each school, including Holy Cross Catholic School, Kemptville Public School and École élémentaire publique Rivière Rideau. The rides wrap up tomorrow.

Urslak says the goal is to raise awareness about fire prevention. He noted it gets the NGFS out there in the community and sparks conversations about fire safety.

The NGFS is hosting an open house tomorrow night at the Kemptville Fire Hall, from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Firefighters will be serving up hot dogs, providing tours and doing demonstrations. Volunteers will also be heading out into the community to check people’s smoke alarms.
