Library looking for reading buddies

The reading buddies program is short on volunteers. The North Grenville Public Library is looking for high school students to help kids in kindergarten to grade 8 develop literacy skills. An orientation is set for September 19, from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

Coordinator Sue Bergeron says it’s a great way to get your volunteer hours. She noted the program helps promote reading confidence and proficiency in both English and French. Bergeron says the program is full, with 20 children registered, and there’s a waiting list.

Reading buddies runs every Thursday afternoon, from September 26 to December 5.

Bergeron says if the volunteers do a good job she’ll provide a reference letter. She explained some of the students have become summer program assistants and landed co-op placements at the library.
