Online auction to bring in dollars for Neon Night

Team Get Glowing is putting out a call for donations. The group is running an online auction in support of Neon Night for Childhood Cancer. Get Glowing has teamed up with Gee’s Gang this year.

Captain Fiona McKenney says the goal is to raise as much money as possible for childhood cancer research. She noted many local businesses have stepped up to help so far, including Rideau Roastery, JM Automotive, Celebrate Cakes and Pure Lotus.

McKenney explained her son, Josh, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 5. She says he is currently 12 years cancer free.

McKenney noted every 6 hours, a child in Canada is diagnosed with cancer, which equals around 1,400 kids per year. She says each year, 83% of children diagnosed will survive, but 17% will not.

This will mark the fourth year Get Glowing has participated in Neon Night. The team raises around $4,000 annually.

The online auction will be done on the Team Get Glowing Facebook page. It starts September 1 and runs for two weeks. To donate an item towards the auction, contact McKenney directly by calling 613-325-8936.

Neon Night is set for September 21 at Riverside Park.
