Local scammed out of $9,000, former KPS vandalized

The OPP is investigating a suspected fraud in North Grenville. Officers were notified on Thursday that a resident was scammed out of $9,000. The fraudster, claiming to be the victim’s grandson, said he was in an ‘at fault’ collision and needed money for legal expenses.

The OPP is reminding the public that if you get a call or email from someone asking for help, check to confirm it’s legitimate before sending money. The OPP says asking questions that would be hard for an imposter to answer correctly is one way to protect yourself. Officers recommend contacting the person who they claim to be directly.

The OPP is also looking into an incident of mischief. A window was broken at the former Kemptville Public School, located on Reuben Crescent. The incident occurred around 1:00am on Saturday. Officers received reports of youth in the area and the sound of glass breaking.

This is the fifth time the building has been vandalized or broken into this year.
