Kayaking for Cancer starts August 10

Paddlers with a purpose are hitting the water in support of cancer research. Kayaking for Cancer starts on August 10 in Kingston. The 202 kilometer journey wraps in Ottawa on August 17, with stops in Merrickville and Burritts Rapids along the way.

Founder Kevin Dionne says this marks the 19th year for Kayaking for Cancer. He noted the group has raised $710,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, and travelled 3,600 kilometers, over the past 18 years. Dionne says he has a goal of $1 million in mind.

He noted none of it would be possible without sponsors like Jenda Paddlesports, Pirate Cove Marina, Jim Perry Motors, Surgenor and Jim Beveridge at B&H Grocer.

Nearly 40 paddlers are taking part this year. People can donate to the cause by clicking here.
