Diesel’s Stampede raises $54,000 for Forbes family

The community came together in a big way for a local man battling cancer. Diesel’s Stampede brought in $54,000 for Ryan Forbes and his family. The event was held on Friday at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. It broke the record for largest private party ever held at the facility.

Organizer and family friend Lisa Brownrigg says it was a sell-out, with around 1,000 people in attendance throughout the night. She noted local businesses donated 100 items to auction off and sponsors stepped up to cover all the costs, so every dollar will go to the family.

Brownrigg says Kemptville is an incredibly generous community. She explained organizers were amazed by the number of donations from people who didn’t even know Ryan, but were touched by his story.

The goal was to raise $30,000 to pay for a clinical trial in Australia. Forbes is battling stage four appendix cancer. He has undergone 20 rounds of chemotherapy in the past year.

Brownrigg says the clinical trial will likely start this fall. She noted Ryan underwent exploratory surgery two weeks ago and tissue samples were sent to other trials, including one in Calgary. Brownrigg says the ultimate goal is to get him well enough for that procedure, which involves chemotherapy inside the abdomen.
