Stop illegal dumping: municipality

Trash troubles persist in North Grenville. The municipality is putting out a reminder to the public that waste must be disposed of properly. The move follows several incidents of illegal dumping on the side of roads.

Fire Chief John Okum says the garbage includes household materials, construction waste and yard waste. He noted it’s been happening recently on McGovern and Kingdom Road.

Okum says illegal dumping is costly for the municipality, which must send out staff to clean-up the mess. He noted bylaw officers investigate the incidents and try to find out who is responsible. The fine is $280.

Okum says illegal dumping is a recurring issue and asks the public to dispose of waste properly and follow municipal bylaws. He explained the waste transfer station in Oxford Mills is open every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

He says if you see someone dumping garbage on the side of the road, report it to bylaw by calling 613-258-9569 ext. 206.
