Lights going up on County Road 43 Bridge

The County Road 43 bridge in Kemptville will soon be illuminated. Streetlights will be installed tomorrow and Friday. The move follows a tragic incident that occurred two years ago. Gary Boal, a 63-year-old municipal worker, was struck and killed while crossing the bridge on foot at night.

People can expect traffic delays while the work is being done.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says she believes it was very prudent to spend resources now to better ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety. She noted if the county is successful in securing funding for the 43 expansion, it will still take a few years for that bridge to be rebuilt.

The total budget for the lights is around $60,000.

Director of Public Works Karen Dunlop says it’s likely the project will come in under budget.
