$10 million funding application submitted for 43

Counties Council approved the $10 million funding application for County Road 43. The paperwork is now in the hands of the government. The funding is through Investing In Canada Infrastructure Program – Rural and Northern Stream.

If approved, the federal government would cover $5 million and the province would pick up $3.3 million. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville (UCLG) and Municipality of North Grenville would be responsible for $1.7 million.

The total cost of the project is around $25 million and the estimated timeline for the work is between two and three years.

UCLG CAO Andy Brown says if successful, the counties intent is to start the project and continue applying for funding to cover the remaining $15 million.

He says the draft plan includes widening 43, from the 416 to Somerville, into a four-lane roadway. The draft plan also includes streetlights up the middle of the road, bike lanes, sidewalks and boulevards with trees.

The final word is expected from the government sometime in June.
