New mental health walk-in clinic for youth opens in Kemptville

Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville (CMHLG) launched a new walk-in clinic. The service is the first introduced by the Mental Health and Addictions Health Hub for Children and Youth. The hub, initiated by the Kemptville District Hospital, now boasts 20 community partners.

The clinic runs every Wednesday from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the CMHLG office, located at the corner of Clothier and Rideau. It is open to anyone 18 years and under. There is no cost to the service.

Community Counsellor Derek Atkinson says you don’t need to call ahead or make an appointment. He says the walk-in clinic is a single session service to look at the concerns of the family or youth.

Atkinson says the goal is to meet the family right where they’re at. He says the walk-in is there for people in crisis, or going through a difficult situation. Atkinson says you can come to the walk-in and have that conversation and find support.

He says response from the community has been very positive.

CMHLG also has a walk-in clinic in Brockville, located at 779 Chelsea Street. For more information about CMHLG services, call 1-800-809-2494 or click here.
