Students Can Receive up to $3,000 Through Local Program

Students can now apply for financial help for their summer company.

Leeds Grenville Small Business Enterprise Centre is currently accepting applications from students between the ages of 15 and 29 who are in school in the spring and are returning to school in the fall.

Business Development Coordinator Jeanette Johnston says this program would be for people who want to check out what it’s like running a business.

“We will give them $1,500 at the beginning of the summer to start their business, maybe to buy inventory or equipment or whatever it is they need. And then we also provide them with training, coaching and mentoring over the summer.”

Johnston adds if the participant completes the program fully, whether or not they make money, they will receive another $1,500 to do what they wish with.

Johnston says previous businesses who have received this grant include photographers, lawn care, odd jobs, magicians and farmers’ market participants. Last year, they were able to help 10 students through this program. Johnston says it’s first come first serve and the absolute deadline to apply is the first week of May.

You cannot apply again, if you have received a Summer Company grant previously. For more information about the program and to apply visit Ontario’s website here.
