Five locals called up by Brockville Braves

The Brockville Braves picked up some new players. The 2019 Bantam Draft that was held Monday night at the Nepean Sportsplex.

The Braves got 11 draft picks for its midget team, including four players from the Upper Canada Cyclones AAA and one player from the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings AA.

Players Will Huffman, Alex Mellon, Liam O’Brien and Mason Wilson were selected from the Cyclones, along with Noah Cyr from the Kings.

Head Scout David Graham says the team is looking for its next generation of players. He says there is a different core of kids every year and the goal is to get the Braves back on the right path.

The draft picks, along with current midget players and some free agents will head to the Braves training camp at the end of August.

Graham says the Braves want to be up there with Ottawa, Pembroke, Cornwall, Kemptville and Carleton Place when it comes to the quality of it’s midget team.

Some other area players were also picked up in the draft including Ethan Wooler of Brockville, and Julian Luberto, Kyle Ferrie and Blake Armitage of Kemptville who all went to the Kemptville 73’s, and Wylie Dixon of Kemptville who was taken by the Smiths Falls Bears.
