OPP warns about job fraud after Kemptville female scammed out of $3,000

The Grenville County OPP wants you to be aware of job scams online.

Constable Suzanne Runciman says fraud job ads will be on legitimate job sites like Indeed, Wow or Kijiji. If the job is not looking for experience, wanting to hire you on the spot without an interview or they’re looking for people to work from home, it may be a scam.

Runciman says a Kemptville resident had been hired by a fake company and was told they would send her a $3,800 cheque. The female then had to put the cheque in her account, take out $3,000, transfer it into bitcoin, email it to the company and keep the remaining $800. A couple days later the female’s bank notified her that the cheque she received was fraudulent and now owes the bank $3,000.

Runciman adds more red flags are any job that is asking you to take money, transfer money or send money to a different location.
