Minister meets with county, municipal reps about 43

Concerns about County Road 43 have been heard. Mayor Nancy Peckford was part of a delegation that met with Infrastructure Minister Monte McNaughton during the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference, held at the end of January.

She was joined by North Grenville CAO Brian Carré, County Warden Pat Sayeau and County CAO Andy Brown.

Peckford says most of the mayors that make up County Council were also in the room. She says it showed strength across the county for crucial road upgrades.

Minister McNaughton was presented a brief about County Road 43. A section of the road, from Somerville to the 416, needs to be expanded into four lanes to meet traffic demands. The estimated cost is $30 million. Government funding is needed to make the expansion a reality.

Peckford says the conversation went well. She says a pre-meeting was held with Minister McNaughton’s senior staff to prepare. Peckford says the purpose was to find out what elements were at play that would position the municipality and county for success.
