Kemptville Youth Centre wants council to look at issue of homelessness

Kemptville Youth Centre Executive Director Robin Heald is hoping to bring attention to the issue of homeless youth in our community. In an interview with JuiceFM October 15th, Heald said there are great resources for youth up to 16 years of age but those between aged 17 to 25 are caught in the care gap, with nowhere to turn. Some spend their nights couch surfing at the homes of friends but many show up at the youth centre, looking for a bed for the night. Currently the closest shelter for older youth is in Prescott, and it only has one bed. Heald has brought the issue up at an All Candidates Meeting and is suggesting that North Grenville voters ask their municipal candidates how they would handle the issue of homelessness, if elected.
