Police confirm three people dead in Ottawa bus crash; information line made public

Three people have died in what is being called a “horrific” crash in Ottawa.

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau confirmed that at a media conference tonight.  Two of the deceased were on the bus and the other was on the platform.

Ottawa Paramedic Chief Myles Cassidy says 25 people were taken to the hospital, 14 are in critical condition while 11 are in serious serious condition

Bordeleau says he double-decker bus (Route #269 to Bridlewood) hit the transit station. Most of the injuries were to people in the upper right side of the bus.   The female bus driver was detained at the scene and will be in custody for further questioning.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and Bordeleau says it will be a lengthy investigation.

Officers will be at the scene throughout the night and again tomorrow.

People are being asked to stay away from the Westboro station area.
