John Pereira was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The Kemptville resident was presented the medal on December 13. Pereira has served as a Cub Scout leader for 25 years.
Pereira says he lived in Portugal and Africa before moving to Canada at the age of six. He says it gave him an upper hand and he just wanted to give back to the community.
Pereira is a member of the military and has volunteered with the Scouts in every community he’s lived since 1994. He is currently with the Kemptville Scouts.
Pereira says the honour came as a surprise. He says he plans on nominating others for the medal.
Pereira says he will continue volunteering with the Scouts for as long as he can.
