Council members given new roles

The primary council liaison positions have been assigned. Each new member of council was given a department to focus on at Monday’s meeting.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the former term was chair, but the new council is going with liaison as a way to describe the role each member will play in tandem with key municipal departments.

Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman will serve as liaison of Planning and Development. Councillor Craig McCormick will take on Emergency and Protective Service. Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan will be the lead for Parks, Recreation and Culture. That leaves Public Works for Councillor John Barclay.

Peckford, who will serve as liaison for Corporate Services, says the announcement of the new roles gives people an idea of who to call when they have issues or concerns.

Committee appointments will be outlined at a later date.
