Outgoing council members bid farewell to community

Members of the outgoing council chaired their final meeting. The last meeting of the current council was held last night. The term of council ends Friday.

The five members of council have a combined 31 years of service to the community under their belts. Deputy Mayor Barb Tobin served three terms, totaling 12 years. Mayor David Gordon served two terms, totalling eight years. Councillors Jim Bertram and Frank Onasanya both served one term, or four years each. Councillor Donovan Arnaud was appointed in 2015 and has served for three years.

Tobin says she learned a great deal about the community and operations of the community during her time on council. She thanked community volunteers for their time and ideas, which made a difference in North Grenville.

Onasanya says democracy does not require uniformity but requires a basic sense of solidarity. He says regardless of outward differences, we are all in this together.

Council elect will be sworn in on December 3. A ceremony is set for 6:00pm at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. The swearing in is open to the whole community.
