Trip of a lifetime for local man battling stage four cancer

Ryan Forbes, along with 12 of his friends, is taking the trip of a lifetime. Forbes was diagnosed with stage four cancer in July and his wife Julia wanted to do something special for his 40th birthday in October. In a post that’s gone viral on social media, Julia video recorded Ryan finding out about the trip to Detroit to watch the Lions and Red Wings play.

In the video, Lions President Rod Wood tells Ryan he is getting tickets to see both teams play, along with pre-game sideline passes and merchandise packages. The Red Wings are also throwing in a tour of the team’s locker room and Little Caesars Arena. The Lions are working with their hotel partners to cover off accommodations for Forbes and his friends.

Julia says she was just looking for a discount code for tickets or a signed t-shirt when she reached out to the Lions and Red Wings. Instead, she got an incredible sports package to surprise Ryan with.

Julia says Ryan was talking about wanting to get back to the things he loves rather than just focusing on cancer before she surprised him. She says Ryan is excited to have something to look forward to that has nothing to do with his medical situation.

Ryan is about to start his fourth round of chemotherapy treatment on Friday. The Detroit trip is set for October 26 to 29.
