Rideau River hits Low Water status

The Rideau River watershed is now at the threshold for Minor Low Water status. The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) issued the statement yesterday.

Rainfall in the last 90 days is about 80 per cent of the normal amount for this time of year. Lake levels and streamflows are also below normal, but still above critical levels. The flow in larger streams throughout the watershed is declining.

Rideau Canal reservoir lakes are at levels typical of early August due to the recent heat wave that caused considerable evaporation.

Conditions are expected to get worse with no significant rainfall in the current forecast. The RVCA will continue monitoring conditions. All residents are encouraged to conserve water when low water conditions occur.
