St. Mike’s girls soccer team makes history with silver medal win at OFSAA

History was made this past weekend. For the first time ever a soccer team from St. Michael Catholic High School placed in the top three at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) finals. The girls varsity soccer team took home silver medals. Coach Lidia Lefebvre says the girls played with tenacity.

The team played Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Pain Court near Chatham. There were 20 schools from across Ontario competing, divided into four pools of five teams. The St. Mike’s girls beat out 18 other teams to finish second. Lefebvre says it’s a rags to riches story.

The girls played over 500 minutes of soccer in just three days. The team almost lost out in a quarter-final match but scored in the last minute to move on. For more information about the team, click here.
