The Oxford Mills Community Association (OMCA) is going to ask North Grenville Council to rename a local park. The community group is drafting a letter to members of council about Oxford Mills Park, more commonly known as Maplewood Park. The move comes after the park’s sign was recently replaced and still reads Oxford Mills Park not Maplewood. OMCA Chair John Barclay the group wants it changed.
The park’s common name stems from Maplewood Hall, which is an old school house turned community venue adjacent to the park. Barclay says even the municipality refers to the park as Maplewood.
Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Guy says he is looking into why the old sign was just replaced and not changed to reflect the common name of the park.
