Albert Dyks Memorial BBQ to bring in funds for RING

Refugees in North Grenville (RING) will benefit from a local fundraising barbecue. The Albert Dyks Memorial Chicken BBQ is set for this Saturday at the Kemptville Christian Reformed Church. Proceeds will go to RING, which is bringing a second refugee family to Kemptville at the end of the month. The organization needs to raise $10,000 to cover transportation costs for the family of five coming from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The memorial barbecue is held annually to raise money for local groups or individuals. Organizer Hans Snippe was good friends with Albert Dyks.

The barbecue brings in between $2,500 and $3,000 each year. The cost is $15 per person for a half chicken meal, which includes beans, coleslaw and dessert. Snippe says a different charity is picked each year.

The event starts at 4:30pm and wraps up around 6:30pm. Between 20 and 25 volunteers make the barbecue possible.
