Concert and tea to raise money for Femme International

A concert and tea benefitting Femme International is in the works. Stop by North Grenville District High School this Sunday to take in the music of Bella Borealis and the Big BANG drumming group. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

Organizer Elisabeth Rubli says Femme International is dedicated to helping girls.

The organization, created by Kemptville native Sabrina Rubli, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. Femme International has helped over 12,000 girls in Tanzania and Kenya to date. It teaches girls about their bodies and provides them with menstrual hygiene kits.

The kits include a menstrual cup, which lasts 12 hours, so girls can stay in school all day when they have their period. Rubli says missing a week of school once a month is wrong.

The concert and tea includes a silent auction with handmade items from women in Tanzania. There will also be refreshments. The cost is $10 for adults and children are free. For more details about Femme International, visit femmeinternational.org.
