Nominations are now open for the 2018 municipal elections. People hoping to land a spot on municipal council could start submitting their nomination packages yesterday. As of 2 p.m. today, only two people had put their names forward in Merrickville-Wolford and North Grenville.
Sitting deputy mayor Anne Barr has thrown in her hat to run for mayor in Merrickville. Councillor Frank Onasanya has decided to run for a second term in North Grenville.
There are five members of North Grenville Council: Onasanya, coun. Jim Bertram (currently on sick leave), coun. Donovan Arnaud, deputy mayor Barb Tobin and mayor David Gordon.
Merrickville-Wolford Council has seven members: coun. Kim Weedmark, coun. David Snowdon, coun. Victor Suthren, coun. Chuck MacInnis, coun. Stephen Ireland, Barr and mayor David Nash.
This year, Merrickville-Wolford is changing to a five-member council – reducing their council size by two.
