Ottawa Coalition launches campaign against sexual violence on campus

The Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW), together with the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre, is launching a thought provoking campaign about sexual violence on Ottawa campuses just as students return to school. The #JustGotWeird campaign aims to get students talking about the types of situations that send up red flags—and what they should do about them.

OC Transpo bus riders, including approximately 50,000 post-secondary students, will notice campaign posters on buses throughout the city starting today and running to the end of September. With questions such as, “What’s with all the groping at this frosh party? Am I wearing a sign that says grab me? #JustGotWeird,” the campaign speaks to students in their language about the full range of sexual violence scenarios that can happen to anyone. The first eight weeks after students arrive on campus have the highest incidence of sexual violence.
