One Ring Phone Scam

If your phone rings once and you don’t recognize the number, do not call back.

That’s the warning coming from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre in the wake of a new scam that’s been targeting Canadians across the country. The scam works by tricking people to call back and when they do, charges are racked on to your monthly phone bill because it acts the same way a charge would for calling a 1-900 number, which can add up to hundreds of dollars per minute.

Reports say that those who have called the number back were met with pre-recorded messages and were put on hold, a tactic designed to keep them on the line and run up the tab.
