New Phone Scam

A new phone scam going around the province has local police warning residents.

The OPP says the scam originated in Toronto but want residents in the area to be aware of it just in case.

According to police, the scam involves someone calling the victim pretending to be a retailer telling them that their credit card has been compromised and that they should contact their bank as well as 911. When the victim hangs up to call, they are in fact still on the line with the scammer.

Residents are being reminded to never share your personal information over the phone with anyone and that if you have a banking issue you should instead go to the bank directly.
