A suspect in an August 12 assault on two cyclists turned himself in to Brockville police Tuesday afternoon. Constable Darryl Boyd said 36-year-old Christopher Merkley came to the police station and turned himself in without incident shortly after noon August 19. Merkley was in court later Tuesday for a bail hearing. At about 10 a.m Tuesday of the previous week, a man confronted a man and a woman riding their bicycles on Water Street. An exchange of words resulted in the woman being assaulted and the man threatened with a weapon. The woman suffered minor injuries with no need for medical attention. Police had gone public in their search for Merkley before he turned himself in.
