Neon Night Kemptville managed to beat expectations.
The fundraiser for childhood cancer research raised more than $80,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Over its first four years, the event has now raised a quarter of a million dollars.
Nearly 800 participants came out to support the cause and walk or run the 2k and 5k routes. A number of Olympians also “knighted” the kids that have battled cancer during the opening ceremonies.
Committee chair Brenda Burich says they hope to make next year’s event even more successful as they continue the fight against the disease. Burich says they won’t stop until childhood cancers are eradicated.
Here’s a video of the closing ceremonies as Burich announces the total.
