Some jobs will be coming to the area thanks to a partnership between the Government of Ontario and Sport Systems Canada.
MPP for South Ottawa John Fraser made the announcement today at the Sport Systems Canada facility in Almonte. According to a press release from the Ontario Government this partnership will help expand the existing facility while creating ten new jobs and allowing the company to retain 21 more.
According to the latest data on the Government of Canada’s website unemployment in South-Eastern Ontario is approximately 7.2 percent. This is higher than both the provincial and national numbers. The newest Stats Canada data says during July the unemployment rate in Ontario was 6.1 and the nationwide number was 6.3, leaving the region an entire percent behind the country as a whole.
Sport Systems Canada manufacture bleachers and sports equipment for customers at home and abroad. This project will expand the manufacturing facility and purchase new production equipment, allowing them to increase their product range. The Ontario Government is investing $108,500 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund into the project on top of the $1,203,6000 coming from Sport Systems Canada. The work is expected to be completed by December 31st of 2019.
