Open house to present RVCA hazard mapping studies of river

Members of the public are invited to an open house regarding a review hazard maps around the Rideau River.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says it has completed two hazard mapping studies of the river. One is from Burritts Rapids to Kars and one from Kars to Hogs Back. The studies update some areas and map new areas. The studies are meant to identify two types of hazards, flooding and slope stability.

The RVCA says the hazard maps will be used by the Municipality of North Grenville and the City of Ottawa to help with their next Official Plan updates as well as Zoning Schedules.

Residents are invited to bring comments on the mapping at the open house. The RVCA says staff welcome historical records of past flood events, news clippings, photographs and even anecdotal stories to help them.

The open house takes place Wednesday, September 27th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the RVCA in Manotick. If you can’t attend but would like to look at the mapping, it can be seen at www.rvca.ca. Comments can also be sent to RVCA Senior Water Resources Engineer Ferdous Ahmed at [email protected].
