A North Gower couple is suing the City, saying Ottawa Fire didn’t do their job. David and Judy Nixon had two barn fires in less than 24 hours at their farm on Prince of Wales Drive on March 22nd. The fire destroyed the barn, livestock and equipment inside. In their statement, the Nixons say fire crews left early the next morning even though they claim they were told the site would be monitored for 24 hours. Around noon the next day, a second uninsured barn on the property caught fire, destroying the structure, as well as more livestock and equipment inside. The Nixons are claiming $1 million for damaged and lost property, $50,000 for special damages and an unknown amount for loss of income. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
