North Grenville’s new Fire Chief was officially appointed at last night’s council meeting.
John Okum is taking on two roles within the municipality. Okum will serve as both Fire Chief and Director of Emergency and Prtoective Services.
Okum brings nearly three decades of experience to the role. He worked his way up from a volunteer firefighter to the chief in Arnprior. Okum took on the chief’s role in that community in 2010.
North Grenville CAO Brian Carré said Okum brings experience from other roles to his new job as well.
Okum took a moment to thank the community for the warm welcome he’s received so far. Okum says one thing stood out when he first arrived and Carré spoke to him.
Okum was flanked by members of council, members of the North Grenville Fire Service and members of the Arnprior Fire Department at the end of the white helmet presentation ceremony.
