Residents in low-lying areas of the Rideau being warned flooding could occur again

Low-lying areas along the Long Reach of the Rideau River between Kemptville and Kars could see some flooding again.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says water levels had returned to normal after the flooding in early April. However, more rain has been forecasted for this week. That could cause the water to flow over the banks of the river and over access roads as well.

The RVCA says adjustments are being made at various dams on the system to help counter the rise.

The RVCA reminds people that it’s dangerous to drive or walk in flowing water deeper than 30 centimeters. Parents should also remind children about the dangers the flooding presents.

The authority says it will continue to provide updates and monitor conditions.
