On July 15th, the North Grenville Planning and Emergency Protective Services Departments hosted a meeting for Burritts Rapids residents regarding the renaming of their road. The meeting was well attended with about 32 in attendance. Planners emphasized the road name change is important from an Emergency Service perspective: you can’t have more than one River Road in a specific region. Early discussion confirmed the current road naming is a problem, as many already identify with variations of County Road 23, River Road, South River Road and Burritts Rapids Road, which is the crowd favourite. Staff have reviewed this option and see no objections with the proposed road name being “Burritts Rapids Road”. It will always remain CR 23 however from a unified Emergency response and 911 perspective. Staff will be bringing this matter back to the Committee of the Whole recommending the road name be Burritts Rapids Road opposed to our original recommendation of CR 23.
