Councillor Jim Bertram says he feels like his right of expression has been taken away. A memo was part of last week’s meeting that discussed the option of streamlining reports from members of North Grenville Council. The idea was to have a written report from each member in the agenda package and then allow members to give a verbal report at the meeting. It was suggested that the verbal report emphasize important items for the public.
At Monday’s meeting, Bertram said he feels like the reports might be subject to modification and reduction to make them brief, and also possibly vetted. Bertram says this goes against his rights as a councillor.
CAO Brian Carré says the idea of written reports would give residents a chance to see what members of council brought to the table at the meeting. Carré also emphasized the idea was a suggestion and not a resolution.
Last week a comment came that by streamlining the verbal report, residents will hear the most important pieces of information.
