Grenville County OPP remind residents to be careful when it comes to “emergency scams”. These scams often target vulnerable people or seniors. Police say in a typical emergency scam, victims will receive frantic phone calls from someone claiming to be a loved one. The typical story consists of the person being in trouble or needing to urgently travel and will require money to do so. Warning signs to watch out for include urgency, secrecy, emotional distress, and a request for a money transfer. If someone you know has been victimized by an “Emergency Scam”, you are asked to contact the OPP.
