Local North Grenville District High School teacher Ron Francis is being recognized with an Upper Canada District school Board Trustee Innovation Award. Francis, a science teacher, is being recognized for creating a classroom described as a physics and chemistry “playground”. Francis uses innovative tools and makes physics concepts accessible. He created a smoke ring garbage can machine to easily show students the concept of wave motion. He also helped bring a Robotics Club to North Grenville, and has taught students how to fly the school’s drone. UCDSB Board of Trustees 1st Vice-Chair Caroll Carkner says Francis embodies the idea of an innovative teacher.
Carkner says Francis’ was nomination by a member of the parent council.
Francis was recognized at the awards ceremony in Brockville yesterday evening.
