12 Fire departments work to put out fires along CP Rail tracks beside Highway 7 and 43 Wednesday

Drummond/North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Rescue responded to fires along the CP Rail tracks beside Highways 7 and 43 Wednesday. The brush fires extended from Glen Tay in Tay Valley Township to Churchill Road in Drummond/North Elmsley Township. Calls came in just after 2:30pm. As fires spread mutual aid had to be called in from 11 other departments including Smith Falls, Perth and Merrickville-Wolford. OPP did close down a stretch of County Road 43 for a time. Two firefighters were brought to hospital due to heat-related issues but no injuries or loss of property was reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
