The OPP East Region Marine Team were patrolling the St. Lawrence and Rideau Rivers on June 24th and 25th. After checking 58 vessels they issued 21 Provincial Offences Notices under the Liquor License Act and Canada Shipping Act. They also suspended the driver’s licenses of 7 boat operators for 3 days after they were caught consuming alcohol on the water. Police say it’s important to remember that drinking and boating is just as dangerous as drinking and driving. They also remind you to make sure you have life jackets for everyone on board as well as proper safety equipment. If you see anyone operating a boat while impaired, call 911.
