Some political pundits are calling it the worst day in the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau so far. A ruckus broke out in the House of Commons Wednesday afternoon, and the PM was at the centre of it. According to witnesses – and footage caught on the chamber camera, Official Opposition Whip and Leeds Grenville MP Gord Brown was trying to make his way to his seat for the physician-assisted dying vote when his path was blocked by several people, including NDP leader Thomas Mulcair.
Just then Prime Minister Trudeau decided to intervene, which involved grabbing Brown by the arm and leading him through the crowd to his seat. In the scuffle, Trudeau inadvertently elbowed a female NDP MP in the chest. A shouting match then broke out between Mulcair and the PM. Trudeau stood up to apologize for his behaviour after the fact. Brown tweeted, “I told the PM to let go of me.” Mulcair is calling the PM’s actions “unparalleled” in Canadian history.
