Ottawa Police to enlist community partners on a new crime prevention strategy

In the wake of a wave of gun violence in the city, Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau has written an open letter to the public. He says those responsible for the deaths of five young men earlier this year will be held accountable. But it will take more than that to bring a long-lasting change to the city.

Chief Bordeleau says he is calling upon community partners in crime prevention, the health unit, youth programs and immigrant services to work with police to find a solution to the current escalation in violent crime in the city. Following the example of other community-led organizations like CeaseFire Halifax, the group will work with those who are at high risk of being involved in violent activity, before they get into trouble.
