2016 Municipal Budget to see a tax rate increase of 2%

On Monday night, the North Grenville Committee of the Whole heard the 2016 municipal budget presentation from staff. CAO Brian Carre says the six percent increase that we endured in 2015 was a “budget reset” to make up for small increases that should have happened over the previous few years. He says it’s already having a positive affect on our reserves.

The 2016 draft budget shows a savings of over half a million dollars in capital expenditures. We also were successful in receiving over half a million in grants over and above $400,000 in transfers to reserves.

Municipal staff are committed to an increase of 2% annually over the next ten years, in keeping with the long term financial plan.

There will be a Budget Q&A session today at 3:00pm for those who have questions.
