Over 100 Ottawa area businesses are working together to put blackened loonies into circulation in our region to raise awareness about the proposed Energy East Pipeline. The coins have a removable decal that point to a website www.noeepipeline.ca with information about the threat the pipeline poses to water, land and climate. It also simulates an oil spill by blackening the image of the iconic loon. Over 100,000 decals have been distributed and they’ve even shown up in local businesses. The decals come from the Ecology Ottawa organization. Here in North Grenville, over 300 local people signed a petition submitted by Sustainable North Grenville to the municipality to oppose any plan that threatens our drinking water.
